Destellos Azules

Destellos Azules reflects on the versatility of blue and its quiet depth. Created with light, medium, and dark shades of blue arranged without strict structure, the piece forms three vessel-like shapes—a canoe, a cruise, and a simple boat—that suggest a journey across a sea of emotion. A vibrant red accent brings a contrast, symbolizing the energy of a cherished memory amidst the calm. The title, " Blue Glimmers," highlights the artist’s admiration for blue’s adaptability and beauty, subtly evoking melancholy and blue’s many moods.

A Heart

The piece titled A Heart is crafted using the techniques of plastics and plastic bowls, combining obscure tones with soft, lighter hues like pinks, blues, purples, reds, and touches of yellow, aqua, and white. Central to the painting is an incomplete circle, shielded by various colors, representing the complexity and fragmentation of a heart. The circle’s center holds blank spaces interspersed with black, blue, pink, purple, red, and white sparks. Toward the edge, the circle opens into a larger “window,” conveying a sense of openness amid disruption. The piece symbolizes vulnerability and resilience, with colors layered to reflect both sorrow and beauty.

Renacimiento

Renacimiento illustrates the experience of stepping into a new life, where each movement holds the promise of rebirth and salvation. It represents a profound moment of spiritual rebirth. A wide, bold path of red dominates the composition, symbolizing the artist's self walking toward a new relationship with God, each step filled with reverence and renewal, with subtle hints of white embedded within it, representing her shoes. Alongside this path, an array of vibrant, multicolored dots signify the people surrounding her—fellow church members whose presence and joy embody the warmth of community and support. Inspired by an experience at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, this piece captures the feeling of salvation. In response to a call from the pastor, the artist stood and walked down the aisle, experiencing an overwhelming sense of rebirth and joy. As she approached, the smiles and joy-filled faces of the congregation filled her with a sense of belonging in the divine presence of God.

Banana Pelao'

Banana Pelao is a painting that transitioned into a photographic representation. The term "pelao," which means "peeled" in Portuguese and "broke" in Puerto Rican dialect, reflects the painting's focus on the natural forms of its materials. This work incorporates a print made from a real lime, along with the use of banana peels.

Arcoiris

Arcoíris embodies the visibility of my Caribbean roots through colors and dynamic brushstrokes, like scribbles. The bright reds, pinks, and blues evoke the joyful spirit of my Puerto Rican and Dominican culture, along with feelings of passion, and freedom that calls for a true identity. I sought to create a balance between the forms, structure, and textured layers of abstract chaos reflected in the theme, as an introspective exploration. While it is an invitation to explore our inner selves, it simultaneously expresses the energy of our people in Latin America. The piece has been called Arcoíris due to the combination of arches and vibrant colors. For me, this piece is a synonym of a Latin celebration of empowerment and fun, where a rainbow of joy exalts the beauty of Caribbean culture
