Javier was born in Guanajuato, México and raised in Southern California where he earned a BA and MA in Spanish from California State University, Long Beach. He is currently a PhD in Latin American Literature candidate in the Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston. Javier is researching Mexican machismo through the representation of drag queens in 20th and 21st century Mexican and Mexican American literature and culture.
