Houston Airports form one of North America’s largest public airport systems and position Houston as the international passenger and cargo gateway to the South Central United States and a primary gateway to Latin America. Houston is proud to be the only city in the Western Hemisphere with two Skytrax rated 4-star airports. George Bush Intercontinental Airport received the highest ranking among U.S. airports in the World’s Top 100 Airports category and placed as second-best airport in North America by Skytrax, a leading global air transport rating organization. This was the fifth year in a row that HOU received a four-star rating. The World Airport Ratings are the international airport quality rating program operated by Skytrax. Ratings are determined through direct and professional analysis of industry quality standards. The airport star ratings are recognized as a global benchmark of airport standards. The Skytrax World Airport Awards — a global benchmark of airport excellence — are among the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry.
The Houston airport system also has one of the largest public art collections in the country. Found throughout the airport grounds, artwork includes everything from sculptures to photographs and most of the art is by Texas artists. In 2023, Skytrax created a new awards category devoted to airport arts programs. Houston Airports was the first-ever recipient. The 2024 award marks the second consecutive year Houston Airports has received top honors at the World Airport Awards for having the best airport arts program in the world.
The University of Houston’s interactive digital Artscape of Houston’s Latino art and artists, Latino cARTographies, also can be found at both airports.
