Henrique Oliveira
Acrylic on Linen
2015
Henrique Oliveira was born in Ourinhos, Brazil in 1973, and is now based in Sao Paolo. His paintings combine festive patterns with vivid colors to create vibrating compositions. This large-scale painting commissioned for Hobby Airport is Oliveira's largest painting to date, and is typical of the lush, fluid abstraction for which he is well known. The composition is distinguished by thick, gestural brushstrokes, dynamic color, and a palpable unrestrained energy.
About this piece, the artist says' "Travessia is the title to one of my favorite Brazilian songs, made in the 60's. It's sung by Milto Nascimento who composed it with Fernando Brant, who wrote the lyrics. Fernando died during the time when I was making this painting, so I wanted to call it "Travessia", which translates to "Crossing" in English.
