Lines In The Morning Sky

Líneas en el cielo matutino

"Lines In The Morning Sky" was conceived by two juxtaposed ideas: my memories as the little girl that dreamed about going to distant lands while watching the airplanes lines crossing the blue sky of her family’s ranch where she grew up in Argentina, and by the infinite sky of Texas, my current home.

This piece was created slowly, with a feeling of deep calm and inner peace, undisturbed by the cluttered mind, celebrating life and allowing myself to embrace everything that gives me hope and happiness.

I worked with acrylic and modeling paste on canvas, building multiple layers, scraping and rebuilding what was constructed before. At the end, sharp lanes cross the canvas exploring the idea of going to remote lands.

The End Of The Storm I

El Fin de la Tormenta I

“The End Of The Storm I” was created at the beginning of the pandemic, in 2020.

It is the first of a series of paintings that were conceived with the feeling that even when times are dark, and it’s not clear when they will be better, there is always hope.

It was a call for faith in the future.

Equilibrium

Equilibrium

“Equilibrium” was created in November 2013, at the beginning of the Maidan Revolution.

At that time I was living with my family in Kyiv, capital of Ukraine, just a few blocks from where the revolution was happening.

I started this piece the day I visited the area where the previous night the police attacked peaceful anti-government protesters, most of them young women and university students.

In this piece I chose to make a glass mosaic because the fragility of the medium symbolizes the precarious equilibrium between government and citizens that was broken that day. This mosaic is laid over a gray-silver acrylic surface that represents the cobblestones streets of Kyiv.

Cataclysm

Cataclismo

“Cataclysm” was created in 2022. This piece is one of many from a body of work inspired by the events related to the never-ending humanitarian crisis at the border of Mexico and the US.

I choose to work on canvas to symbolize the coziness of a piece of fabric as a shelter for all those who did not have a roof to sleep under. I then choose acrylic because it dries fast, with the intention of reflecting what happens in the news: these people seeking asylum came up in news stories and then disappear from the headlines in a flash when they were no longer considered news. Lastly, I added modelling paste to build depth and to express how profound and complicated the crisis was (and still is), and I worked with glass to represent vulnerability, pain, fragility, mainly on children and pregnant women.
