In 1922, the William P Hobby Airport became the only 5-Star rated airport throughout the state of Texas

and North America after it received its rating by Skytrax. The Skytrax World Airport Star Rating is a

global benchmark of quality evaluation for the aviation industry. Airports are rated between a 1-Star and

5-Star level following a detailed audit analysis of facilities and staff service to customers across all front-

line areas of the airport environment. Hobby Airport excelled in all 29 rating categories, achieving the

highly coveted 5-Star Rating.

The Houston airport system also has one of the largest public art collections in the country. Found

throughout the airport grounds, artwork includes everything from sculptures to photographs and most of

the art is by Texas artists. Skytrax created a new awards category devoted to airport arts programs.

Houston Airports was the first-ever recipient. The 2024 award marks the second consecutive year

Houston Airports has received top honors at the World Airport Awards for having the best airport arts

program in the world.

The University of Houston’s interactive digital Artscape of Houston’s Latino art and artists, Latino

cARTographies, also can be found at both airports.
