Houston is Inspired @ Travis St.

Houston is Inspired @ Travis St.

This mural is visible from the corners of Travis and Preston and a landmark in Downtown Houston. Artist Mario E. Figueroa Jr., artistically known as GONZO247, spray painted this work with bright contrasting colors and agitated lines. It echoes the streets of Downtown Houston giving the illusion that one could walk right into the streets that it is rendering. As it occupies an entire wall the mural embraces the viewer by grabbing her/his attention with the vibrancy of its colors and the sensation of its form. At the same time, it guides the viewer’s eyes to the iconic representation of the Houston cityscape on the horizon, with the letters HOUSTON is inspired below the horizon. The work was produced during the Greater Houston Convention and Business Bureau’s campaign. Houston Is Inspired calls attention to Houston’s culinary and art scene. The design of the mural is now an icon that has been reproduced in Houston and in Mexico. GONZO247 rendered his hometown to represent the diversity of the people and their energy in Houston.
